Overwhelming response stalls Mahindra XUV5OO bookings

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. has suspended any further bookings of their newly launched SUV - the XUV 5OO temporarily till the next announcement from the company. The SUV, priced Rs 10.8 to 11.95 lakh (exshowroom, Delhi) was launched on September 29th and bookings started from October 1st. The company had to call of their bookings due to the ecstatic response received all over. Till October 11th, Mahindra has already received over 8000 bookings in just 10 days.


Bookings for the XUV 5OO had opened across five cities - Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bengaluru and Chennai - from October 1st, 2011. With over 35,000+ number of test drive requests and over 8.5 lacs of visits to the XUV5OO site in just 2 weeks. The official statement coming from the company said, “It is a delight for us at M&M that the XUV5OO has garnered 5000+ bookings in a mere 6 days and across only 5 cities. We are humbled by this overwhelming response to the launch and would like to thank customers for the confidence they have reposed in the XUV5OO.”

News coming in says that M&M won’t enter into other locations for now but with the demand pouring in from all the five cities, where it has been launched, the launch of this new SUV has surely announced his arrival in a big way!

M&M new SUV XUV500 to be launched on Sept 28

Mahindra and Mahindra (M&M), country’s largest utility vehicle manufacturer, said its new premium sports utility vehicle (SUV) codenamed – W201 positioned would be branded as XUV500 (pronounced ‘XUV 5-double-oh’) and will be launched on September 28th, 2011. And the very next day, the company would share the pricing, strategy & technology behind their vehicle after a visit & test drive at the Chakan plant.


The new XUV500 will be launched initially in India and South Africa and will be subsequently launched in other markets later on.

From engine specifications perspective, this machine will use a transversely located 2.2-litre mHawk engine and a new transaxle, specifically developed for the W201 entirely from scratch. Engine power will be increased from 120bhp to 140bhp and torque is estimated to be around 32.6kgm. The company is even evaluating bumping the power up to 170bhp in the future with a twin turbo version. There will also be a lot of goodies like traction control, ESP, and hill descent control as well.

The XUV500, Mahindra’s most important product, will be positioned above the Scorpio and it could cost around Rs 13 lakh for the base 2WD version.
