2011 FORMULA 1 Indian Grand Prix

With just almost a month to go for India's date with 1st ever Formula 1 race, the government is locked in a tussle with the organizers over custom duties that threatens to derail the mega event.
The sticking point is the customs department's insistence that the organizers of the Formula One Indian Grand Prix pay duty upfront on all equipment coming into the country for the race. While no valuation has ever been done on F1 equipment, it is estimated that the duty on them could come to around Rs 600 crore or more.

But for all the Formula 1 Indian lovers, in order to increase interest in the inaugural race at the Buddh International Circuit outside New Delhi in October, Lewis Hamilton will be demonstrating a McLaren just outside Bangalore on September 27. The run will take place
on the NICE road, a toll road which links the cities of Bangalore and Mysore in the Karnataka region.

The sponsor will hold contests this week for customers to win 30 select passes and watch the racing star live in action.

"In addition, 10 lucky customers will drive to the pit garage with the racer while three customers get to meet and greet Hamilton personally,"
McLaren sponsor and leading mobile service operator Vodafone Essar said in a statement

Following Hamilton's run, on October 1, Daniel Ricciardo will get the opportunity to drive the Red Bull showcar once again when he takes to the streets of New Delhi. The Red Bull demonstration will mark four weeks until the grand prix weekend, and Ricciardo will take to the Rajpath, with India Gate as the backdrop.
