German car manufacturer BMW has unveiled the sixth generation of its most sellable car, the
all new 2012 BMW 3 series sedan. Since
the launch of this series in 1975, BMW has pocketed the maximum revenue sale by
selling the maximum number of copies among all BMW offerings. With the redesigned
new model, the new 3 series resembles the look of its other sibling the 5
series with the enlarged size.
The new 3-series is 93 millimeters, or 3 1/2 inches, longer, up to 40 kilograms (88 pounds) lighter, and has more legroom for the rear seat passengers. It's also equipped with technology such as a color heads-up display on some models and lane departure warning system. Other available technology includes a lane departure warning system and an eight-speed automatic transmission. BMW management board chairperson Norbert Reithofer says, “We are confident the new BMW 3 Series will build on the tremendous success of its predecessors”.
The new 328i model petrol engine is expected of producing 245 BHP of max power & 350 Nm of max torque with 0-100 kmph in 6 seconds & it’s other variant, 335i, would be producing 306 BHP of max power & 400 Nm of max torque with 0-100 kmph in 5.5 seconds. Similarly, the diesel variant 320D model diesel engine would be available under EfficientDynamics tag with appreciable outputs of 161 BHP and 380 Nm.
Analyst Marc-Rene Tonn at Warburg Research in Hamburg said the new model is an important part of the company's efforts to cut product costs since it will share parts with its bigger 5-series. He said that the 3-Series plays an important role in defining the brand because there are so many on the road, and because it is more affordable for people who might move up to a more expensive model later.
"The 3-series is decisive for the brand," said Tonn. "It's still the first BMW for many buyers, so it's a very important car for them."
The 3-series goes on sale worldwide on Feb. 11, 2012. We’re expecting the first glimpse of this new 3 series in India at the New Delhi Auto Expo 2012.
