The most radical and technically advanced, all new, fourth generation Range Rover is slated for a 2012 launch.
The MKIV Range Rover is a revolution in itself, changing a long established Range Rover design cues, is based on the sporty styling of the new Evoque. With a new pressed Aluminum Monocoque, this MKIV will be much lighter than the current MKIII model, despite an increase in size. This Aluminum platform is a bit wider & around 25mm longer as well. The rear legroom has improved by as much as 125mm, as the new architecture has allowed the rear wheels to be pushed further towards the back of the car.
Although the interior of today’s MKIII Range Rover is highly regarded, the new Model is aiming even higher. Adding to the harmony, sources say the company wants to achieve “Bentley levels of Craftsmanship and quality”.
As far as engine variants are concerned, Land Rover is expecting 2 new variants i.e. V6 Petrol & supercharged V6 Petrol. This new V6 made its debut in Jaguar’s C-X16 sports car concept at the Frankfurt show last month. Otherwise, the car will have the same basic range of engines, including V6 and V8 diesels, and V8 and supercharged V8 petrols.
The introduction of pressed and riveted Aluminum Monocoque will definitely let this new MKIV Range Rover to be more economical. This architecture reduces its weight by 450 Kg. Sources say that the new car is expected to share a floor and crash structure with the next-gen Jaguar XJ, but with a unique bulkhead, suspension mounts, seating position and subframes. The Range Rover is also expected to share a new electrical architecture with the XJ.
